COUPLES COUNSELLING

MY APPROACH

I seek to provide a safe space for couples to talk through issues that would otherwise be ignored or potentially lead to unmanageable conflict. I aim to help each partner to authentically share their perspective and feel heard and understood by the other. This may involve the expression of deep wounds, unmet needs, or shattered dreams. It may be that there are issues from the past that haven't been properly resolved and continue to affect the relationship.

It may be that you and your partner are stuck in cycles of arguments and blaming. Or perhaps things feel very disconnected. I can help to expose the underlying reasons for why conflict and disconnect occurs.

I have helped couples to improve their communication and develop emotional intimacy while dealing with issues such as:

  • infidelity or broken trust

  • anger problems

  • addiction

  • unresolved conflict

  • unmet needs or expectations (eg around boundaries, time together, sex etc.)

In my approach I largely draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as well as Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory, and Transactional Analysis.
